Henry III Hammered Silver Short and Long Cross Penny Set

Dating over 800 years old, this set allows you to own a genuine piece of history like no other.

Part of the general circulating coinage over 800 years ago, Short Cross pennies were vulnerable to a counterfeiting method called ‘clipping.

By ‘clipping’ and shaving portions of the coin off, these coins’ silver content was reduced and then passed on at face value, an act punishable by death if caught.

In an attempt to combat this crime, the Long Cross penny was introduced with additional features. Most notably, a larger cross on the reverse side, which added complexity and detail to the coin's appearance, intended to deter counterfeiters and improve the public's trust in the coinage.

Today, CPM Prestige clients have a very exciting opportunity to secure the Henry IIII Short and Long Cross Penny Set struck and circulated over 800 years ago.

Arriving protectively encapsulated, your Short and Long Cross Set arrives with its own certificate of authenticity and bespoke presentation case so it can be kept safe for generations to come.
